Yesterdays journey with no visuals

Yesterday was a good day but it was also a long day especially when you start out getting up around 4 am. Got to work at 5 am worked until 2 pm bolted out of here and went home for a quick change and to pick up a thing or two then off to the station. Found a new way to get there through the country that by-passes Union City and its much closer. Got to the station did the show then back to Farmville with a quick stop at MickeyD's for supper then off to the church for an M&O meeting. Unfortunately I had to miss most of the meeting but there and finished it out. Hung around afterwards just chillin' with Pink and PK outside for a bit enjoying the sky. Got home around 9 something to see the kids leaving to spend the night at the Silvers' house, hey a impromptu night alone with the wife. Spent way to much time trying to get the pictures on yesterdays post, someday I'll get it all figured out, then its about time for bed finally around 11:30. Why can't I get in bed at a decent hour? Got worship team practice tonight for the first time in 3 weeks so I'm itching to get back in the playing routine. Got the song list this morning and it will be a good one, we have Nate leading this week. Now its time to look for a cool place to relax and get ready to eat and wait for that magical 4:30 time.

Visual journey of my day on the radio

This is a picture of the production room where all the voice overs are done like for the different spots and stuff that you hear like the community announcements and such. Haven't done anything back here yet but I'm sure that day will come.

This is a sign they have on the door that people who help out at the station or help with the Sharathons sign. Notice anyone?
Here's a closer look.

Master controls. This is where I spend my time. The knob all the way to the left is the one to turn on when I want to talk, the one next to it is the 2nd mic, the third one is the most important one it is the one that controls the computer and what is going over the air.
Here is the computer that runs things, the yellow number is counting down the song so when it gets to :00 its time to talk if there is a break put in there otherwise it just goes on to the next item. That Auto On red square is very important, if it is like it is then the next thing in line will just take off after whatever is above it is done if it is in Auto Off and white you have to manually start it which is clicking on the purple square to the far left. Auto on very good.
This is the dial that gave me fits that one Saturday, I had it on 2 which is nothing, should have been on 1 like it is for the phone.
The brains of the operation, the weather alert system and some other stuff that I don't know about, all I know is "NO TOUCHY"
Here is the antenna that gets it all out, ok not really but pretty funny though.
It was fun there today, thanks to all those who listened and those who called and participated in todays show it was fun and I'm probably going to get in trouble for telling people to rub Dan Franks' head on Saturday, it was funny though.

Today is the day

Today is the day, you have made..... sounds like the new Lincoln Brewster song oh wait it is. I dig that song and maybe today I'll play it on 88.9 JOY FM from a little after 3 til 7 pm on the Workday Wrap-Up. They are giving me the keys again for this show and I'm ready for it, it's gonna be fun come join me and have some fun too. I came in bright and early today at 5 am to be able to leave here at 2 pm which after a quick stop home and grab some things and out the door should put me over there around 3:15 to 3:30 and maybe earlier. After the show head off to the church for meeting night, its a bummer that I have to miss the first part of it but I'll make it there. Gonna be a fun day be sure to call in some requests at 877-335-4569 for the all request drive at 5 and for those who read this I'll give you a heads up, I think we will make todays request hour be songs from a band or duo/group kind of thing i.e. Mercy Me, Kutless, Phillips, Craig & Dean that kind of thing, sorry Steven Curtis and Jeremy but you'll have to wait until 6 to be heard again. So be thinking of those duos and groups you like and give me a buzz.

That was fun

Went over to JOY FM last night and recorded a "Word of the day" segment with Naomi and it was alot of fun. She asked if I wanted to see the words or not and I decided to wing it and luckily I pretty much got all 5 words right. Then had to give an example of the word which was fun. It should air not next week but the week after that in the 6 am hour, when I find out more I'll be sure and let you all know. It was kind of like being interviewed at the begining of each segment before turning to the task at hand. Also learned a few new tricks that someday might come in handy, got to learn how to do some recording and ways to do some other recording where you use a couple of tracks. I would like to do something like that for the SRF show kind of my own little snipet of stuff, have to work on that.

I'll be over there tomorrow around 3 so tune in if you can as I take the wheel on the Workday Wrap-Up.

More radio tidbits

A few more tidbits for the radio station 88.9 JOY FM, I'll be heading over there later today to do some recording of the "Word Of The Day" segments with Naomi. She records them then plays them at the begining of the Workday Wrap-Up to let everyone know what word they should be listening for. She'll give me the word and I have guess what it means and give an example of the use of the word in a sentence. It's gonna be fun and I hope I know what the words are, maybe I should take a dictionary with me.

Speaking of the radio station, I'll be on the air again this Wednesday from around 3 to 7 doing the Workday Wrap-Up so be sure and check it out if you can. It has been alot of fun helping out over there and I've been blessed with the opportunity to be able to do this. I've got one more Friday night coming up (Aug. 15th) before the show gets minimized to an hour when we start up with high school football, I've signed up to do the board again and could possibly end up doing the whole season on the board then rotating with the 3 others for the Solid Rock part of it. God is good.

Youth was fun again last night and you can read about what we talked about here. We have been discussing prayer and Bryan had a cool message about it with a little trickery at the start but I think the students got the point he was making. I have enjoyed these lessons we have been having on prayer and I was real excited that 2 of the students even volunteered to pray at the begining of the message (Autumn) and at the end (Sari), I know its hard to pray in public but these students are opening up more and more.

We came here to rock this jam....

We rocked the house tonight if I don't say so myself, Coby and Eric both did fantastic and had alot of fun I do believe. You could kind of sense the nerves the first time but after that they both were a couple of pros at it. I think we might be on to something here and I'm sure in a couple of weeks when I head back over there I'll have 2 other guests with me. It is fun to show people what I do over there and let them have a taste of it. Had a request waiting for me when we got there from Chad Rector who wanted some Demon Hunter and I was happy to ablige. Taylor called with her list and Haliee and Mariah Martin both called in requests, and Mariah there is still a bucket of water with your name on it. Talked alot about Locked and Loaded and gave away the 4 tickets. Now on with the show.

Tonights play list:
Barren Cross - Imaginary Music (Love the 20 some second holding of the note Mike Lee does on this one)
Sanctus Real - Turn On The Lights
MXPX - Bass So Low (For Tyson)
A Life Echoed - Party Girl (For Taylor, a Locked and Loaded band)
Kids In The Way - My Little Nightmare (For Emily)
Pillar - Throwdown (For Tammy)
Demon Hunter - Carry Me Down (For Chad)
Fireflight - Unbreakable
First Class Faux - Between The Lines (Another Locked and Loaded band)
Decyfer Down - Fight Like This
Deas Vail - Rewind
Anberlin - Reclusion
Skillet - The Older I Get (For Haliee)
Thousand Foot Krutch - Falls Apart (For Maiah)
Homeless J - Slip
Kutless - In Me
Hawk Nelson - Friend Like That (For Naomi, my bud from the Workday Wrap-Up and soon to be Joy In the Morning hostess)
Dizmas - Play It Safe
Stryper - Soldiers Under Command (Forgot what a great song this is, 80's metal at its finest)

Great show and good time with the Cobester and The (one of 5,166) Eric Brown.

Tonight

Don't forget to tune in tonight at 9:30 to 88.9 JOY FM to hear a little Solid Rock Friday Night with myself as host and my 2 guests, the Cobester (Coby) and The Eric Brown, as we play your favorites from yesterday and today, wait I'm getting carried away. So call, text, and or twitter your requests in and we will try and get them on for you. If you can't pick up the station where you are listen online at 889joyfm.com. Its gonna be fun.

No title

Do you ever have any of those times that no matter how tired you are or how much you want to go home you just can't seem to make it there. Had one of those nights last night where I just couldn't get to bed. Now I was pretty beat, mowed two yards and I'm not as young as I once was when I could do that with ease, so I was just waiting for bedtime. It comes and you'd think I'd crawl into bed and not be heard from until morning but noooooo, I had to pull out the guitar and start messing around with it for the second or third night in a row for way longer than I should have. It was fun don't get me wrong and I've learned a few things but I also could have been stacking up some zzzzz's. I find it funny that when I was younger sleep wasn't that important but as I get older I cherish those moments and times when I get to sleep. Mental note to self, when tired don't start anything just GO TO BED.

Give us a listen.

Just a quick reminder that Friday night from 9:30-11:00 pm on 88.9 JOY FM you will be able to not only hear one person from FFC, myself, but 2 others. Coby and Zach from the youth group will be heading over there with me to talk about the LOCKED AND LOADED tour that is coming on Aug 8 which is just about 2 weeks away and if you haven't heard of the tour it is 13 bands coming here from 2:30 to around 10 pm to hang out with us. I've checked out all the bands, which none of them are signed to a major label, and I think this show is going to rock so you need to get some tickets and come join us and you need to listen Friday night and call in your requests and rock out with the Cobester, Guitar Hero Zach and myself.

Bummer

After being away from the second service and the worship team now for two weeks I was excited about getting back at it this weekend but got an email yesterday and it will be yet another week until I get back at it. We will be back at the 10:30 service this week but not playing again, bummer. Oh well there is always next week. It is good to get a break from playing every once in a while but now its kind of one of those can't get home kind of moments, you know the kind where your ready to be home from doing whatever but things just keep coming up or the places you are going keep delaying you for reasons unknown, thats how it is right now. On a better note I am listening right now as I type to the brand new Third Day cd called "Revelation" which is out in stores next Tuesday, thanks New Release Tuesday. So far I like it although I'm still bummed that Brad Avery left the band.

That hasn't happened for 8-9 years

Yesterday I had something happen that hasn't happened for 8 or 9 years, (sappy alert) we went to church yesterday with some friends (Aub & Roy) to see their youngest daughter McKenzie be dedicated. It was cool seeing all of their families together at church for this and then we went to the Bolings to have a little lunch and celebration. Good food, good cake, and good times. As it was winding down and people were leaving Aub and her mom stepped out and all that were left was Aub's husband Roy who was getting things ready for their trip home to Columbus, Tammy who was cleaning stuff up, the kids who were keeping their oldest daughter Caroline company. While Tammy was cleaning up she had 'Kenzie and asked me to take her a walk around the house, so we did and then went to sit down with the kids as they were watching a movie, while sitting there 'Kenzie decided to take a little nap on my shoulder which like I said hasn't happened since Tyson was really little, I must admit it was really cool to experience that again. Now before anyone goes off the deep end and with the recent rash of pregnant women at FFC we are NOT putting our hats into that ring, been there done that plus I would have to go question the doctor if that ever happened again.

On another note we went and hung out at the 4-H fair Saturday for a bit and bugged Naomi from JOY FM and Tammy even got on the air, allbeit only to give her name she was finally on the air. Lot of fun and speaking of the radio I will be on there again Friday from 9:30 to 11:00 pm with a couple of special guests, Coby Clouse and Zach Moore won the drawing last night at youth so they will be on the air with me this Friday, you ought to check it out.

Ready for the weekend

Friday has finally made it and now I'm ready for the weekend. Tomorrow we are heading over to the Randolph County 4-H fair and bug Naomi Miller from JOY FM as she is doing a live remote there from 1-3 so I'm sure we will have a little fun. Got 2 more cookouts tomorrow in the "summer of cookouts" to go to, I think I have been to more cookouts and have cooked out more ourselves this year than we have in the past 3 or 4 years combined. Going to the early service again this week and then off to Muncie to a church that some friends of ours are having their youngest daughter dedicated then get ready for youth. We are giving away, if thats what you want to call it, to two students one girl and one boy an opportunity to go over to the radio station with me next Friday to promote the Locked and Loaded tour coming on Aug. 8 here at the Teshuva at FFC. Be sure to listen then to win tickets and also tonight as they will be giving away more tickets on Solid Rock Friday Night. Now if it were just 4:30 pm.

Great night, great tacos

Got to spend the evening with the Pinkertons last night which included the world famous, nothing else like them, dig in the trash for leftovers chicken tacos. James is most definately the master chef when it comes to these. Taking care of each one like it is a one of a kind masterpiece, handling them with such care to delite your tastebuds in ways that should be illeagal. After the food festivities we headed in for some Wii, Taylor said he was going to make Pink cry in bowling and yes she did, allbeit a fake cry just to make her happy Pink had the last laugh when he beat her by about 20 pins, but neither one of them or Mom had anything for Lucas and his jump tactics. It was great to hang out with them and just chill and build relationships and hopefully we can return the favor in a few weeks.

Got an email yesterday and I will be heading over to the radio station 2 weeks from today to handle the Workday Wrap-Up again to fill in for a day, that will be fun.

Oh Happy Day

What a great day, Taylor helped us mow most of the backyard yesterday. She has done a strip or two here and there over the last year or so a few times but last night she took over and did well over half if not 3/4's of the back yard. I have been waiting for the time when the kids can mow the yard and it is getting closer and closer. She also surprised us yesterday by cleaning the house without being asked, she just did it. I've got a cool daughter and son who also pitched in on the house cleaning a bit. Not quite ready to turn her loose on the front yard but it won't be long. She has got most of the mowing essentials down right down to the mp3 player. Just have to tweak a few things and we'll turn her loose.

We will be hanging with the Pinkertons tonight for a bit and three words for what is on tap for tonight, chicken tacos and wii, 'nuff said.

Weekend memories

Well another good weekend has come to an end with another Monday morning, time to start it all over again. Had a few surprises this weekend and alot of fun. Started out with a date with the little misses at Ruby Tuesday. Its the first time I've eaten at the new one in Muncie and yes I recomend it to anyone. After getting our fill there we were wasting some time before heading to a friends house to pick up a thing for the pooch. During this time we get a call from Tyson and he is staying all night with the friend who took him to Kokomo for something, Taylor was staying with the Silvers' so it was a free night for the wife and I. Watched a movie and just took it easy. Saturday was relaxing for the most part then off to Winchester to help out with the Second Saturday Serve handing out gift cards at McDonalds and Arbys which was fun. Got home and enjoyed the storm that blew through.

Went to the 8:30 service yesterday before heading off to my sister-in-laws church to watch her and my nephew sing. It was youth day there because they just got back from camp and spent the service talking about it and showing videos of the week. Helped Tammy clean the dentist office then off to some stores and finally home to go to youth and have a big ole' water war, which was fun. Youth was good as we continued our talk on prayer. I sit and think that with all that happened this weekend with the wreck of the two fellows from MC that someone had this all planned out ahead of time and that what we are learning about has been put to good use.

We are having a little contest at youth next week because I am taking two volunteers or winners of the contest over to the radio station on the 25th to help out with the dj part and talking about the Locked and Loaded Tour and give away a few tickets. Should be fun.

Friday, July 11, 2008

That was me on there.

Yesterday I thought I wasn't going to be on the air, I thought I'd just be running the board for the remote but I did get to spend a little time on the air reading the Good News for a Change segment and doing the Prayer Circle and I had to lead Naomi in a couple of times because she was set up by the stage where a band was playing from 6 to 6:40. I got to end the show off with a little banter with Naomi on where they will be doing live remotes for the next couple of weeks and got to end the show off as she signed off. It was fun and I really enjoy hanging out over there. Congrats to FFC's own Bill Davis for winning the Word Of The Day contest, its always cool to hear familiar voices on the phone. I gave the station some tickets for the Locked and Loaded Tour which is coming to FFC on Aug. 8 so they can give them away on Solid Rock Friday Night so be listening and call in to win.

At the radio station but not on the radio

I'll be leaving work a little early today around 2 pm to head over to the radio station to run the board while Naomi Miller is at Portland for the Colts caravan thingy and Connersvine concert afterwards. Its all free so if your looking for something to do this evening head on up to Portland and check it out, wouldn't mind seeing Connersvine but sometime. I'll be handling the board for her show and hopefully there won't be any repeat performances of a few Saturdays ago when I had a little brain fade and struggled a bit. Should be fun. Also I'm taking some tickets to the Locked and Loaded show coming to the Teshuva here at FFC for giveaways on the next few Solid Rock Friday Nights so if you want a pair of free tickets listen and call in to win Fridays from 8-11. I'll have some more when I go over on the 25th.

Compassion Update

I got an email from Compassion the other day and thought I'd share a few tidbits from it. They now have 1,043,857 children registered with them now and 857,296 of those children are sponsored. I am excited to see them nearing the 1 million sponsored children mark that is just too cool.

Here is something that really excites me and makes me say YES, more than 37,200 Compassion assisted children have received Jesus Christ as their personal savior, come on say it with me.......YES.

Bibles have been given to 32,500 children and families in need.

Over 308,430 children received health check ups and 83,280 were treated for health issues.

More than 175,000 mosquito nets have been purchased to date.

If you haven't sponsored a child or if you want to or even just get more info on Compassion just click on the word or on the side of the blog and check it out for yourself. I got another email from them last night that is offering tours of their facility in Colorado Springs, that would be cool to check that out and see how they do what they do. If you sponsor a child don't forget to write them and say hey.

Update

Back at the end of last year, start of this year this guy challenged us at youth to read the bible in a year, which I did for the first time last year. With the year half over we should be in Psalms somewhere but I have fallen a bit behind and tonight I will be starting the favorite of this young lady, Job. I am close to being caught up and after a few good nights of reading I can get back on track and finish it out this year again, and even though this girl says she is hoping to finish now before she graduates I think I encourage her to stay the course for this year. I have also been reading a chapter a day of the New Testament here at work during lunch but there is a problem. I am at Romans 4 which means there is 140 chapters left, I looked and there are 126 days left (Monday-Friday only) and if you factor in I have 5 of those scheduled off takes it to 121. Now take out the holidays (Labor Day, Thanksgiving and the day after, and Christmas) and that takes it down to 117. Now I've never claimed to be the smartest tool in the shed but it don't add up. Now I could take the 5 chapters of James out because we are going over that in our growth group and that would take it down to 135 and take out the 4 chapters of Philippians that this guy and this guy as well as Ryan have been talking about and that would be 131. Still doesn't add up. So I guess I'll just read until I decide to stop for the day and I can complete this journey as well. Anyone else reading through the bible in a year?

Spreading a little link love by the way.

Quick thought

I was coming in to work this morning and I saw on one of the banks little time and temp things that it was 75 degrees at 5:50 am. My question is why is 75 deg in the morning muggy but 75 deg at 3 or 4 in the afternoon is just about perfect? I guess I've been kinda hot all morning since I woke up and my alarm clock which has a temp thing on it said 82.9 deg, not a good thing to see at 5 in the morning. Whose all for central air, I know I am.

Sunday set list

Here is the set list for today, I think things clicked very well today, there are those moments where everything just flows and I think today was one of those days. What an awesome day at church.

How Awesome Is The Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin (Started this one off a bit different but it went well, this is one of the best "opening" songs we do)
O' For A Thousand Tounges To Sing - David Crowder Band* (This one is starting to take off, remember the chorus, "we're not looking for pitch or tone we are looking for volume"-David Crowder at Frenzy 08)
Your Grace Is Enough - Chris Tomlin (A fun song to play and do all the little fills and stuff)
Mighty To Save - Hillsong (Quite possibly one of the best songs ever written)
Enough - Chris Tomlin (Jennifer knocked this one out)
We Fall Down - Chris Tomlin/Kutless (A late addition on Thursday and it was the right choice)
All Who Are Thirsty - Vinyard/Kutless (Nate knocked this one out)

It was good to have Jennifers brother Joe helping us out hope he gets to hang out with us when he can. I think though I'll be taking a 2-week vacation from playing as we are going to check out my nephew, who is 10, singing with his church next week. My sister in law plays bass and my other nephew sometimes plays the guitar at this church. Then the next week we are going to be with some friends who are having their youngest daughter dedicated so we'll be MIA for 2 weeks but then back and ready to rock and ready to roll.

A dedication to the Pfohl family

I have always liked this song and here recently everytime I hear this I think of the Jeff and Mindy and the kids and what all they have gone through. After all the trials and all they still PRAISE GOD with everything they have. So in honor of them I am doing a youtube blog dedication for them with Mercy Me and the song Bring the Rain. Hope you enjoy and thanks Jeff and Mindy for being sold out to Christ.

Fun Fourth Friday w/ Friends

Had a good time yesterday hanging with some friends enjoying the 4th of July festivities, started with a cookout at the Akers with some killer grilled chicken and all kinds of other goodies, think I put on a few pounds. Went home to relax for a few and watch Chase and Tyson play playstation. Headed out to New Castle to watch the fireworks from the big hill with the Akers, Blys, Brincefields, and Prices. Played a little euchre first partnering with Stephen's brother Ben and winning both games then Jeff took Ben's spot and the winning continued. Good fireworks display as usual over there, the only bad part is that WMDH is the sponsor so the blast the country music. Got back to the car to leave at 10:44 and was out on the highway about a half hour later and on the road to home. Our neighbors were going to go there as well and we talked to them when we got home and found out they were in the same area we were but just didn't know it.

Got another cookout this afternoon at 5 and another one at 6 but I think we will just stop in and say hey at that one. The vacation is quickly coming to an end and I am not ready to go back and see what is waiting for me at work with e-mails, messages and just papers thrown on the desk that I get to figure out what they are for.

Lazy days are great.

Yesterday was a very lazy day around the Chalfant household, Taylor spent the night at the neighbors and Tyson went with a buddy to the Ft. Wayne Zoo so Tammy and I caught up on some sleep most of the morning then watched some season 3 of Wings, then had a awesome cookout with some sirloins on the little grill, ready for lunch to eat the rest, then relaxed on the porch and then popcorn and more Wings. Its been an enjoyable vacation even though I'm not going anywhere. Got M & O tonight and worship team practice on Thursday and still not clear whats going on Friday yet.

Found out that the video a few posts down of the ball girl making that catch was fake and computer generated, you never can tell these days. Still looked cool though.
