Rookie stripe off

I can now take off my rookie stripe for the Workday Wrap-Up, day one done and not too bad. There were times where I was thinking that I was bombing but nothing but good comments so far. The biggest mistake from today was when we did the "Word of the day" I am supposed to use it in a sentence, check, then hit the WOD sounder, check, make sure the volume is up so you can actually hear the sounder, uh hang on a sec, ok check. I had to hit it twice because I didn't have the volume up for it but got it done none the less. Good day, and good times now ready to do it all again Monday. Only bad thing now is that I need to get to bed because I am working for the first time this year on a Saturday. Packed day work from 6-11 come home and mow go to a graduation party at some point between 1-4 then off to church for small group at 6. Busy bee.

Today is the day.

Well today is the day that I hit "primetime" radio with the Workday Wrap-Up and I'll be honest with you I am a tad bit nervous. I always get just a little nervous before hitting the air but its normally will any cds skip, will anyone call in a request, is there anybody listening and so on but today it is different, no cds everything is already planned out on the computer, there will be requests because there is this little thing called the "All request drive at 5" and yes there will be people listening today and hopefully they keep listening. It is going to be fun and once I get over there and do that first break it will all be good. So be sure to tune in to 88.9 Joy Fm from 4-7 and check it out. I'll be on today and then again on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday same time same station. You can always listen online if you'd like at the JOY FM website.

Went to the fair last night and I would write something about it but theres not much to write about except running into Jason and Amy Combs and talking to them for a bit and then heading out and getting a couple of elephant ears which were delicious. It was fun watching Tyson going on the couple of rides that he did go on and watching his excitement. Taylor too when they both went on the swings. Went home and had some fun playing with the pooch in the back yard running around and watching her run in circles to get away. Had a nice chat with the neighbor who has been doing all kinds of improvements to their house, really want to invite them to church but always seem to freeze up and don't, sometime though there will be a big thaw and we'll ask.

Random thing, did you know that there is hardly any traffic on the highway at 4:30 in the morning, didn't know if you knew that or not and now you do.

No batteries

We need to keep a set of batteries on hand for the digital camera at the house because we missed a good opportunity the other night. Tammy was checking on the kids as we were getting ready for bed and she went in Tyson's room and thought he had turned around because she saw his feet on his pillow. A closer look revealed that it was not his feet on the pillow but he had taken his socks off and put them on his hands. I have no idea why or how but she called me in to take a look and when I did he kinda woke up a bit and I asked him why his socks were on his hands and he said he likes to do that sometimes, ok, I haven't seen socks on his hands since he was little and we used them to protect him from scratching himself. Wish we had batteries cause it would have made a funny picture but then again if we had batteries in the camera Taylor would be taking pictures of her ear, a close up of her eye, her laying on her bed, her nose, her feet, you get the idea she gets the camera and just starts taking pictures of anything and everything.

The big Farmland fair started last night and we missed it, what a bummer (insert as much sarcasm as you would like). I don't think we will make it up there til Saturday, didn't look like a whole lot not like it used to be, but an elephant ear does sound good.

As requested

As requested from my bud Heavy B here is some info on an exciting little thing that JOY FM is doing, it is a 3 day worship tour with The Adam Cappa Band. It is for 3 nights in 3 different cities and it is as follows.

Thursday June 5th at Lighthouse Christian Center in Greenville, Ohio at 7 pm
Friday June 6th at Fountain City Wesleyan Church in Richmond, Indiana at 8 pm
Saturday June 7th at Glad Tidings Church in Muncie, Indiana at 7 pm

All of these shows are free with a freewill offering being taken. JOY FM will be there each night with a booth set up with all kinds of stuff and it should be fun. We might try and make it to the Richmond show, we have small group on Saturday so can't make the show in Muncie. JOY FM has been playing The Adam Cappa Band here recently I believe its The Jesus Song. I'm sure I'll be hitting it up Friday and next Mon-Wed when I handle the Workday Wrap Up duties from 4-7 each of those days. It should be fun so check it out if you can.

Any Takers?

I am so there, anyone else want to go? Let me know.

Back to the grind

Well the 3 day weekend is officially over as I have made it back to work, I had hoped I'd forget the way here but I didn't. Good weekend at times a blur but I enjoyed all 3 days in some way or another. Had big plans yesterday to go watch the MC varsity baseball team at the sectional but didn't know that it cost $5 to get in and had no cash with me so turned around and went back home and waited for a little cookout action. The cookout was great, had a wonderful hostess, a grillmaster that would have Bobby Flay shaking in his boots, the apple pie making queen, and Luigi himself. Good times, good food, and more importantly good company.

The travelers got home yesterday afternoon after going to bed around 1 or 2 in the morning getting up around 4 and heading out around 5 they got back in a little after 1 yesterday dragging and very tired. It is good to have them back. They made a quick stop in Columbus, hey Aub, and then back out on the road to home.

The only bad thing about this whole weekend was the lack of big storms at any point yesterday like the weather people were all talking about, I'm begining to think that they have way too many gadgets that say things are going to be way worse than they actually end up being. Still waiting for a big storm to come blowing in sometime.

Final day off

I always enjoy these 3 day weekends but the final day is always bittersweet, cool because its a day off but uncool because its back to work tomorrow. This week and next week will be a little different because Friday and next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will be heading over to the radio station to help out with the Workday Wrap Up from 4-7 each day which will be alot of fun. Don't know if I will be doing all the same things that Naomi does but I do know I'll be doing the Prayer Circle at 5:50 each day and probably the all request drive at 5. But from there who knows, all I know is I'm getting pumped up about it.

The travelers are back in Indiana got a call about an hour ago and they were around the Scottsburg area which is a half hour or 45 min. from Louisville. They are making a stop in Columbus to visit a friend and then back home. I have missed the both of them and so has Tyson and Layla as well. It will be good to have them back. Its been a busy weekend seems like we've been on the go quite a bit here and it won't stop today. Saturday went with the youth to the movies and yesterday with church and youth which both were absolutely awesome. Getting ready in just a few to head for a cookout and maybe some Mario Kart? The project I was going to do is half done and I will finish it later today, would have took before and after pictures but the camera was 300 or so miles away.

Yesterdays song list:

Better Is One Day - Matt Redman/Kutless
How Awesome Is The Lord Most High - Chris Tomlin (I was going to get Pinks attention before this one started to get everyone clapping before I kicked into it but I couldn't so I started and wouldn't you know the clapping just pretty much started right after I did, cool. I was going to go over and headbang with Pink during one part but didn't, sometime though)
Holy Is The Lord - Chris Tomlin
How Great Is Our God - Chris Tomlin
Agnus Dei - MWS/Third Day (This is a fun one to play)
Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone) - Chris Tomlin

Good list and fun to play, How Awesome is a fun one to watch people when we get to the chorus.

3 day weekend good and bad

We are coming up on one of my favorite things, a 3 day weekend. But this one is going to be both good and bad, good cause its 3 days off work, bad cause Tammy and Taylor will be heading down south for the weekend and I will not get to enjoy those days with them. Its going to be packed though with a little project at some point and movie with the youth Saturday evening, church and youth on Sunday and I haven't the slightest idea whats going on Monday. I do know it will be a weekend full of sports on the tv, hope the dog likes sports.

Scrip card testimonial

I know you have been hearing Pink talking about Scrip cards everyonce in a while and I'm here to tell a quick story. A week or so ago we got two $25 Scrip cards for gas at the pantry, and no I don't mean gas from the chicken and breadsticks, from him. When I went up there the gas tank was just under a 1/4 of a tank, put my $25 in and it took it up to a little over 3/4 of a tank. Now this is on a Sunday after church I did this. I drove my car back and forth to work all 5 days that week and when Friday rolled around there was still over 1/4 of a tank left. Normally a full tank lasts the week but this was under and it could have lasted just a bit longer. So I thought that was pretty cool and of course I'm ready to get more but I've been filling up before I get the chance to buy them or actually remember to get them. So if you see Pink after PK's Gunslingers message on Sunday hit him up for some Scrip cards for just about anything and help a kid in the youth group out, like Taylor, and they will be getting some fundage going in an account for them to use for youth activities. If this does not make sense I'm sorry, our new edition to the family wanted to bark most of the night last night so I'm running on 3 -4 hours sleep right now and I'm trying to stay awake. Here's praying that tonight is alot better than last night.

New member of the family.

This is Layla, no we didn't name her. I thought about changing her name to Stay, you know "Come here Stay." That would mess her up though. She is part beagle part boxer so that makes her a beager or a boxle. Kids didn't know she was coming home with me so they were really surprised when they walked in and saw her.

Need more of those

Last night something happened that doesn't happen very often but I wish would happen more, we were all in bed by 9:30 and from my standpoint out before 10 pm. That doesn't happen often but I can tell you that I sure did wake up kinda refreshed and actually felt like I got sleep. Need to do that alot more often, now if that happens or not thats another story.

I am pulling a Bryan Vickery this weekend, Tammy and Taylor for sure and possibly Tyson are heading to Tenneesse for decoration so I'll be at the homestead and I've got 1 and possibly 2 projects that I'm planning on doing. Kind of scary cause I don't normally do these kind of things but I'm sucking it up and gonna tackle them. Funny thing is I won't tell Tammy what it is I'm doing so she is probably wondering when they get back will there still be a house standing. Better get some before and after photos and check up on my insurance..........

Caption please

Any takers?

Why are the weekends so short?

Is it just me or do the weekends seem to be the quickest 2 days of the week? It seems like just yesterday it was Friday now its Monday, wierd. Saturday was fun, walked around town with a couple of friends of ours going to some of the rummages going on in town, then off to the grocery and even had time to stop by the Moose and grab a diet cherry coke. Off to small group where we dug into the book of James. James is only 5 chapters long but it sure does pack a powerful punch. We got through the first 2 chapters and I am ready for the rest now. Nice relaxing evening at home with the girls, Tyson spent the weekend basically at a friends house, fell asleep on the couch a couple of times during the NASCAR all-star race oh well. It did storm just a bit late Saturday early Sunday which was cool, I am so ready for a big ole boomin' storm to come blowing in.

Sunday was good with another great message on being RISKY, not risque' but taking risks. I told PK after service that I took a risk that day by playing the country music we did, wasn't bad but don't want to make a habit out of it. Playing the acoustic was a bit different, felt like a fish out of water but managed. The action is alot different on a acoustic than an electric and by that I mean the strings aren't as close to the neck as those on my electric so I had to learn to push down alot harder. I'm thinking since we are doing a series that features country music we need to do a series that features some bone cruching, hair raising, ear splitting hard and heavy music, thats what I'm talking about. Flashing lights, smoke, explosions and so on yeah that would be cool. Youth was fun got to watch Narnia which I had not seen but it was good to just hang with both junior and senior high youth. After the movie we got challenged for a project for next week that has still got me messed up, can't wait to see how it turns out, I have a feeling it will be a huge blessing.

Here is yesterdays set list:

I Saw The Light - Alison Kraus version
Dixieland Delight (Instrumental during greeting)
Not To Us - Chris Tomlin
It Is You - Newsboys (We need to do this one more often)
Long Black Train - Josh Turner (Offering song)
Just As I Am - Daniel Baker
Let My Words Be Few - Matt Redman
Oh Praise Him - David Crowder Band*

Oh what a night..

Well what started out as a normal 10-11 shift turned into a 8-11 shift and I loved every minute of it. I got a call around 5 asking if I could go over at 8 and be on until 10. I told him I could do all 3 hours but he said he would try and get someone for the final hour. That didn't happen and I got to do the whole show. It was fun, gave away a cd had a few requests and had a few calls asking about songs and such and even tried to give a little news about some of the artists. I played 47 songs by 45 different artists. I played two Third Day songs and two Thousand Foot Krutch songs, got a request for the TFK song as I was playing the other one. One problem a cd was skipping for a bit but switched that out and carried on.

At the end of the show at 11 it is supposed to go into the Z Rock Radio Revolution but as the hour switched over it skipped the 1st segment so I tried to put it back in and it skipped again so I started a song and noticed that both segments were there but not there. They weren't ID so they weren't recognized. So we had a little issue. There was only 25 minutes of music in the hour so I had to go in a put more songs in to make it through the hour and some station ID's after every 2 songs. It was fun to replace all those missed minutes and I am glad that I stayed there to make sure everything took off. Also learned to have a song on the computer ready while playing cd's just incase something happens to the cd. Tammy and Taylor went with me and Taylor got to introduce 3 or 4 songs and we all had fun. Should have took the camera, oh well next time. Thanks to all who listened.

CHANGE OF PLANS

Instead of being on the air from 10-11 tonight I will be on from 8-10 and possibly the whole show. So if you were going to tune in make sure you tune in at 8 now. Don't forget to call and request at 877-335-4569. Rock on.

Check this song out.

Just found a song from a new band that goes with what PK was talking about last week. The band is called Tenth Avenue North, they are a new band and you might have heard their song "Love Is Here" on JOY FM or any other christian radio station. The song I'm talking about though is called LET IT GO and it goes like this:

I've been holding on so tight
Look at these knuckles they've gone white
From fighting for who I want to be
I'm just trying to find security

You say let it go, You say let it go
You say life is waiting for the one's who lose control
You say You will be everything I need
You say if I lose my life it's then I'll find my soul
You say let it go

Well it's hard enough to hear
Harder still to move beyond this fear
We know there's nothing I can bring
So tell me what do you want from me

What do I love? What do I hate?
What will I lose? What will I gain?
How do I save my soul?
What if I bend? What if I break?
What will it cost? What will it take?
For YOU to save my soul

All the more proof I shouldn't work on things

We traded our washer and dryer with some friends of ours who purchased a new one, we took their old one and they took ours to sell. Anyway we got them swapped out and hooked up and running and saw water leaking out of the washer and thought all right whats going on, did we not get something tight. Investigating the situation, Tammy got to put her crime show watching into action, we noticed that it was leaking around where the drain hose is, allright no problem we'll tighten that up, right after we pull the thing off and let the water run everywhere. Shut the machine off quickly and notice hey the plug just got drenched that can't be good. So in my vast electrical knowledge and lack there of, I just go out and turn off all the power to the house to clean this all up with no one getting hurt. Everything clean and dry, drain hose now tightly in position, plug back in go turn back on the power and nothing. Not good maybe it kicked something off, Tammy does more investigating and notices the plug obviously isn't in good so she takes care of it and we are back up and running. I really shouldn't be working on things, trouble is right around the corner.

Gunslingin' thoughts

Aside from the country theme I think this new series is going to be awesome, really liked the message yesterday. I always have liked the verse "to live is Christ, to die is gain" but like so many others I don't want to die just yet. But I can tell you that one person I really want to look up in heaven and just sit down and talk and listen to stories is Apostle Paul. There are alot of people from the bible who would be fun to talk to but I think Paul would be at the top of the list. I really enjoy going to FFC where each series just flat out brings it, they keep getting better and better and now it is up to me and you to live these things out. Thanks PK for all that you do, even wearing cowboy getup.

Yesterdays songs are:

Mighty To Save - Hillsong (I think this is a "crowd" favorite)
Everlasting God - Lincoln Brewster / Chris Tomlin (once again the people were very loud during the chorus)
Holy Is The Lord - Chris Tomlin (I really dug the way this one ended)
I Saw The Light - Hank Williams (I hope I didn't lose my rock card on this one, people seemed to enjoy it though)
Come Thou Fount - Robert Robinson (I liked the explanation at the begining, admit it you always thought of Scrooge when the word Ebenezer came up on the screen just like me)
How Great Is Our God - Chris Tomlin (played this one much better than last time, we stayed on time)
How Great Thou Art - Stuart Hine (I like the way these two go together)

I think there will be more surprises during this series so we will just have to see what unfolds. Youth was fun last night with a little 4 square and Sanctuary dodgeball then a good message about Peter and his denials then meeting back up with Christ and seeing how the "3" times were turned around into something else. It was one of those "I never made the connection things."

Who turned out the lights.

"Woke up this morning....." sorry Peter Frampton flashbacks. Woke up today like normal, hit the snooze button fell back asleep for a few then the alarm went off again, hit snooze then I hear a voice from Taylor's room saying "Mommy can you come here?" Start thinking is she sick, spider in her room again, what, then I turn over and notice that its really dark in the house, huh powers off. It wasn't storming, did Farmland forget to pay the electric bill for the town? So we get up and started using my cell phone for a flash light, they make pretty good flashlights for about a minute or two. Got ready by candlelight and yes I did something that I normally accuse others of doing when I see them wearing a Jeff Gordon or Dale Jr. shirt or something with the Reds on them, I got dressed in the dark. Left for work and as soon as I hit P-Town Down there was power. Some squirel probably got fried so that is why the power is out but who knows. Brought back quick flashbacks to the ice storm of a few years ago, which we were just talking about the other day, but there was no sound of falling limbs outside when I left just peaceful.

Back to normal

Back to normal today which means I have to catch up from yesterdays glorious day off, but that is the price you pay for those kind of things. Yesterday was good but involved alot of running here and there. Took Tyson to school after hearing them give him a birthday wish on JOY FM then went up town to vote (there was no box marked other), then we went home for a brief moment. Took off for Muncie to go to Mutual to open a new checking account for us to save for a new car at some point. Left there to come home and Tammy mentioned we should have went out for breakfast. FOOD? I'm in, so I thought we'd head over to Winchester for a little breakfast. On the way to Farmland Tammy spots a chair at a rummage so we turn around and go back, nice chair and it will go well with Taylors desk so we bought it. Now off to that breakfast, went to Arby's had a bacon, egg, & cheese wrap which was killer. Got done time to head back home, pulled out of the Arby's parking lot and see Coby pulling into the parking lot across the street but she didn't wave, I'll let her know about that. Spent a few minutes at home before the next thing on the agenda, lunch with Tyson.

Got out to the school and heard alot of "Hi Tyson's Mom" as we walked down the hallway. Had a good lunch with Tyson but then it dawned on us that we forgot his popsicles for later, back home to get them, then off to Bly's for a bit. Left there off to the church to get some Scrip cards. Go in help Pastor Marggy decide on something, walk on down help Jenny with a Compassion issue, anyone else need help? Got the cards ordered and some new music for work, watched some of last weeks service then off to get Tyson from school. Get home wait for the girls to get back from Girl Scouts then off to Muncie again to Fazolis for supper, good news free breadsticks are back, only thing is you have to go to the counter to get them. Back home chill out on the porch watch some TV then off to bed. Seems like I spent alot of time in the car going from here to there but it was a good day.

Tuesday, May 6, 2008

Ah day off?

Took a vacation day today because it is Tyson's birthday, he hits double digits today the big 1-0. So Tammy took today off as well and we will be meeting up with him today at school for lunch and take some popsicles for his class for later for a little party. Also on the agenda today on this relaxing day off is going up to vote which is different for me, I am totally bored with and dislike politics so this is a switch for me. Not a democrat not a republican not a liberal, conservitive, insert name here, I'm just me. Got to go to the bank to start a new checking account for a newer car eventually so we are starting an account that we won't touch. I'll probably mow at some point today before going out to supper tonight at Tyson's choice which should be interesting. So this day off is not really a day off, but at least I'm not at work.

Sunday (& Saturday) Reflections

I was being taught a lesson this weekend through 2 teachings and I'm glad for these teachings. I find myself more often than I'd like being short tempered and having no patience with the kids on some days. I might be angry from something that they had nothing to do with then come home and be irritable and every little thing sets me off. Friday I took Tyson and 2 of his buddies to Eatsa Pizza for some food and games and had fun then went and played the fastest round of miniture golf in the history of said golf. I think it took us about 15 minutes tops to play, we didn't keep score because the boys never remembered and they were 2 or 3 holes ahead of me. Fun but for some reason a little thing like that just got under my skin. There was 2 other people on the top side that we played and they were just about to finish up when we started so there was no chance of catching them. Get home and its all video games for the rest of the night.

Saturday 1st lesson, went to small group and we are in a transistion phase not quite ready to start into our next study so we had a quick one on building your house, family, marriage on a rock instead of sand. Good lesson and one of the last points made was that children are a blessing from God. I know common sense stuff here but for some reason the more I think about it the more it sinks in deeper and deeper and makes me think why do I get angry and upset as much as I do when I have been blessed so much with these two. Then Sunday Pink brought it, I really enjoyed the message he brought and yes I need to live out alot of what he said, but what struck me the most was setting an example in front of the kids. Both of the kids get it when it comes to God but I want to be a example for them so that they always get it and are never ashamed. God has this great way of getting our attention when we need to stop and refocus where we are at and I thank Him for doing that this weekend.

Songs from yesterday...
Everything That Has Breath - Matt Redman
In the Secret - Sonicflood
Now That Your Near - Hillsong
My Hope Is In You - Third Day
All Who Are Thirsty - Vinyard/Kutless
Breathe - Micheal W. Smith, someone else wrote it and it escapes me right now.
He Reigns - Newsboys

The worship has been incredible these last few weeks and yesterday was no different. I really liked ending with He Reigns, it was like a victory celebration type thing and yes the people were LOUD on this one. I really dig it when up on stage you hear the people singing louder than us. And I wished I would have known Pink was going to use the spin as an example cause I would have faked one but hang on its coming again sometime.

301 and After Edmund

After today I'll probably weigh 301 lbs, at work today there is a supplier coming in to talk about issues with their plating process and just to meet them and I get to be at the meeting which isn't that exciting until after the meeting we go out for lunch, now that's exciting. More than likely it will be Carino's or Damons which is fine with me. After work I get to take Tyson and 2 of his buddies to Eatsa Pizza for a early birthday party for him. So I'll be pigging out at both places even though I shouldn't. And this morning Tammy made some of her great breakfast burritos so I'll be devouring a couple of them in just a few short minutes, life's good.

Here is a quick heads up for those of you who are looking for some good new music. The band is called After Edmund and the cd is called HELLO, and it rocks. I heard it online a few months back and thought it was pretty cool. James got a big box of cds in for the youth and let me borrow a few to put on my computer here at work and it was one of them and I can't get enough of them. Check it out and I think you'll like them too. They have made their way onto the list of possible bands for the New Years Eve celebration. Thats the album cover at the top.

#300

Another milestone reached here today with post #300. 300 in bowling is a perfect game and one that is hard to accomplish. 300 laps or miles normally make up a Nationwide (Busch) series race, if your a .300 hitter your a pretty good consistant hitter. 300 wins for a baseball pitcher is a big deal, means you've been pretty sucessful. 300 in golf absolutely sucks. If it takes you 300 strokes to play a round you probably don't need to be playing. Some NBA players reach 300 points in just 10 games which is like a month on the schedule. 300 yards passing by a NFL quaterback used to be a big number now there are 20 or so a week. 300 blogspot posts well I don't know what that means actually except it means I've been doing this for over a year now. I noticed that in April I had more posts than there are days, odd that I did that.

On to some cool news. At the end of the month and begining of next month more specific Wednesday May 28th, Thursday May 29th, Friday May 30th, Monday June 2nd, Tuesday June 3rd, and finally Wednesday June 4th I will be filling in for Naomi Miller who will be filling in for a vacationing David Emerson from 4-7 each of those days on the Workday WrapUp on Joy FM. I am excited about the chance of working on a normal day but nervous because there will be alot more people listening. I thank God for an excellent opportunity to do something that I truely love doing. I might have to get the old digital camera up and going and do a blog/journal kind of thing that week. I am getting called up from the minors for a little stint in the big leagues. Should be fun.
